Origin Story
Why Jingshan matters in the history of Chinese matcha.
For many international buyers, matcha is associated mainly with Japan. The deeper story begins earlier in China, and Jingshan is one of the places where powdered tea culture became highly refined.

At Jingshan Temple, tea was connected with Zen practice, order, and hospitality. During the Song Dynasty, steaming tea leaves, refining them into powder, whisking the bowl, and formal tea gatherings became part of a recognisable cultural system.
Japanese monks later studied in Jingshan and brought both religious practice and powdered tea methods back to Japan, where those methods evolved further. That is why Jingshan remains highly relevant in any serious discussion of matcha history.
